Few regional blocks are as similar as the lumbar sympathetic block and the celiac plexus block. Thus, if the concepts behind one technique are understood, it is quite easy to translate that anatomic understanding into successful performance of the other. Adequate sedation for placing the needle against the lateral portion of the second lumbar vertebra is also essential for patient (and thus anesthesiologist) satisfaction.
