To understand the celiac plexus block fully, one should be familiar with the concept of retrocrural and anterocrural block. Such an understanding helps the anesthesiologist develop a three-dimensional “feel” for the location of the needle tip. With the patient in the prone position, adequate sedation can also be administered, which goes a long way toward making the anesthesiologist and the patient comfortable during the celiac plexus block.
